This is just more of a quick going over review then a full review and also only played as a single player and not multi which is where this game would shine.
You start by skydiving down from an airplane getting you used to the wiimote and motion plus. Controls are easy, you hold the mote out and move it down to travel faster straight to glide etc etc, everything is easy to pick up and has instructions which you can skip, apart from the first 3 minute video you have to watch to show you how to connect and disconnect the motion plus.
The menu system is easy to follow like the first, you click on what you want to do then it opens up the options for the game you clicked on. As you progress through the game there are stamps to collect, some you will just get by playing through everything and the other will take a little more work. I will briefly go through all of the games available, all which are open from the start but you have to play through some to open up more locations, courses or levels.

Swordplay – You use the wiimote only on this one, I have opened up three different games, first is you vs. a computer (or friend if you are playing multi), three rounds and it’s whoever knocks the opponent off the middle cycle into the water below. Best of three, and if both of you are standing once the time runs down then it’s a draw no matter how many times you hit your opponent. You hold the wiimote with both hands, use B to block and move the mote in every direction you can think of to attack. It's quite fun but I can see it getting boring fast. The second section puts you against an opponent and chucks items at you with an arrow directing you which way to slice it. This section is all about direction and speed and its first person who slices their objects correct and fastest who gets the point. The third section is the best, this puts you against loads of opponents and it’s up to you to fight your way through it to the boss without losing 3 lives. Duel is 1-2 players, Speed Slice is 1-2 players but Showdown is only 1 player.

Wakeboarding - You hold the wiimote straight in front of you like one bar, you are tied to a boat and move left and right to glide along the water. You use the ripples and waves created by the boat to jump and do tricks while in the air and it’s up to you to land straight to get the points. More impressive the trick the higher the score. Up to 4 players for this sport.

Frisbee so far is my favourite, using the wiimote you chuck your Frisbee as you would a real one and try and land it on the marker shown where your cute dog will catch it. Closer to the marker the bigger the score and the last 4 throws will also have a balloon you can pop for extra points. The motion plus works well here and you can see how the Frisbee tilts at the slightest throw and curve. The second game is Golf with a Frisbee, this is ok and made easier at the end as you only have to get the Frisbee through the area at the end and not land there. The Frisbee will throw like you would so if you have a curve when you throw this could prove hard for you. 1-4 players on both games.

Archery – One of the few games which uses the nuchuck. You use the wiimote and nunchuck to aim your bow and shoot arrows at a board. The wiimote acts as the bow itself and you use the nunchuck as the wire. You aim then hold down A then Z once you think you have the correct position you let go of A and an arrow will shoot out. Points range from 10 down to 1 depending on where you hit. The distance and wind will affect your shots. Up to 4 players on this sport.
Basketball - The 1 player mode was better than 3 on 3 imo. Controls are really easy to use, just use the wiimote in your throwing arm holding down B then as you would throw a ball let go of B and aim when you think it’s right. Only thing they can't imitate is the weight of the ball. 3 on 3 lets you pass the ball with A or the Dpad then you throw when you think its right. Dribbling requires you to bounce the wiimote up and down to simulate a dribble and if you get close enough you can go for a dunk. The 3 point Contest is up to 4 players but 3 on 3 is 1-2.

Bowling - feels the same but it’s easier to spin the ball with the use of the motion plus. The second game lets you have a go at striking down 100 pins and the third option adds barriers in the way of your pins, some of them moving. Like before up to 4 players can participate.

Table Tennis - feels like tennis did but again your movements are more accurate. You have a match option or a Return Challenge which lets you hit back balls served to you until you miss or hit one off the table. Items will be places for you to hit to gain more points. Match games have 1-2 players but up to 4 for Return Challenge

Golf – Again this is much like the first, all original courses are back and 3 new ones. You can tell the difference having the motion plus but the game is more or less the same. Like before you can have up to 4 players.
Power Cruising – another game which uses both wiimote and nunchuck, using both like handles to a bike. I would have liked to use the wiimote as a throttle to go faster instead you just hold down A or B which can be tricky and use the mote itself for turning and a sharp twist will give you a burst. You have the options of a Slalom Course or VS mode which would be better with two human players.
Canoeing – Using the mote alone move it from side to side of your body like you would, great fun to do and the course has bends which lets you understand how your movements can affect your direction. Both Speed Challenge and vs. are 1-4 players.
Cycling – Using both mote and nunchuck you move them up and down to speed up, and side to side to steer, Fun for about 3 minutes then gets old. You tire very fast and have to then stop peddling to gain your breath. You will start last and have to work your way around everyone. It reminds me of jogging on the wii fit but less fun. Both Road Race and vs. are 1-2 player

Air Sports – the last game you can play consists of Skydiving like at the start of the game which is only a one player game to catch as many of your wii’s during your fall. Island Flyover which lets you fly over the island collecting as many Info points as possible, this was a good play through and you can choose the time of day. Dogfight lets you try and pop your opponent’s balloons and whoever has the most left at the end wins, up to 2 players can play this but I felt that shooting each other would have been more fun.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village "Review"

Puzzles, I didn’t really want this game when it was released but when it sold out on release it raised my eye a little. It’s only now that I have managed to get hold of a copy and give it a play. The game is based up of lots of small puzzles, 135 to be exact with a story built in.
The story is actually very good and also has little cartoon snippets which are brilliant to watch and looks better then most others I have witnessed on the DS.

The puzzles range from really easy to pretty hard and there were a couple I had to really think about. The game offers you hidden coins as you travel around the village talking to the locals, these hidden coins allow you up to 3 hints on each puzzle.

This game not only has puzzles and a good story but there are side quests, one is to build a gizmo which will help you find coins and hidden puzzles, another is a picture puzzle and another is to collect items for your hotel rooms. Once you complete all these more puzzles will open up for you and these will be difficult.

I have now finished all 135 and this took me 14 hours of game play which for a hand held is more then sufficient. Once you complete the game there will be more stuff for you to play around with, including movie, voice and sound clips, artwork and profiles and something called “the hidden door”.

The game really does push your mind and is also very addictive. I look forward until the next one

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts "Review"

I was late playing the first banjo on the N64 and had to borrow a family members N64 to play it then had to wait until the release of the Xbox Live download to finish it and I thought it was a fantastic game that has dated well. I have not really played much of Tooie but I believe it to be the same kind of game as the first.

Banjo Nuts and Bolts however is completely different from the previous Banjo games. All what made the first game an all time classic has been completely stripped and remodelled. First of all the whole game is all about vehicles. At first you have limited parts and designs to accomplish anything and this game really does have a slow start. I got fed up with it pretty quickly as I felt the level design was poor and unimaginative and all the challenges felt like I was doing the same thing over and over. There was either a Race on land, water or air, getting to certain points within a time limit and carrying people or items. There were odd ones thrown in here and there but that was pretty much the jist. Each level had 6 entrances which were just to the same area with different challenges. These challenges you could gain Notes, Jiggies and Trophies (4 Trophies make up another Jiggie) depending on how well you did the challenge. Musical notes are also placed around the levels for you to collect and Jingos now offer extra challenges which unlock tokens used at a casino in Showdown Town which is the main area of the game. I actually preferred Showdown Town more then I did doing any of the other tasks. There were crates to find which unlocked extra parts, there were Jingos who were prisoner which you had to free and replace with their evil equivalent.
One thing I will comment the game on is how beautiful everything looks even down to Banjo and Kazooie. All the characters from previous games make an appearance but l just feel they have stepped away from what fans of the original games were expecting and hoping for.
The challenges can me quite challenging at time but once you have found many parts and you are able to build a better vehicle then the ones they provide you can turn a challenging race into a breeze. After awhile I did start to enjoy building vehicles and taking some of the previous challenges back on but I felt this came to late in the game and most people may have given up and put the game down by then.
In conclusion it does get better if you stick with it but on a whole I feel they could have done such a better game if the challenges and level design were better and maybe more of what we loved in the first game.

Fallout 3 "Review"

My favourite game of 2008. I had this on release day but never really played it much and until playing this game Call of Duty W&W was my favourite game of 2008 until now.

From the makers of Oblivion another classic and a game that would make my top 10 of all time, Fallout 3 plays pretty much the same. From the start you play as a baby and choose what your character will look like in future. The US is a devastated wasteland after a nuclear war, your character was born inside vault 101 a survival shelter designed to protect a number of humans for the nuclear fallout.

Not far into the game your Father leaves you and you decided to follow. Once out you will be amazed by the graphics of the wasteland, everything looks fantastic and you get that sense of being alone in the wastelands of America.

Along the way you visit small towns, mines, slave camps and much more as you fight off the enemies that inhabit the wastelands. The control system plays like Oblivion and has the same level up which allows you to gain new knowledge out of many skills which include science, lock pick, heavy and small gun etc etc. Each skill can be maximised to 100% and it’s up to you which skills you will want to learn and how to develop your character as you progress through the game.

There is a Karma level for your character which increases or decreases depending on the choices you make while in the wasteland. If you want to be a good guy just make the choices or vice versa if you want to play the bad guy. I myself chose to mix it up a bit depending on if I liked who I was working for.

You can use most food and drink found in the wasteland but the problem is everything outside the vault has radiation and this is another thing you will have to watch in your game, lucky enough you can pay a Doctor in some towns to cure your radiation poisoning at a certain price, he will also cure any addictions to medications you may pick up. All money is in Bottle Caps which you earn by completing missions, finding them in the wastelands or just selling items you have found.

Like Oblivion you can only carry so much, anything more and you will be unable to move quickly or fast travel. You can fast travel from location to location so long as you have found the location first on foot and there are no enemies around.

Through the game all options like stats, items weapons and maps will be on your pitboy, something issued to you at the start of the game. Another interesting point is you can also pick up people to assist you in some quests for a short time including your loyal dog Dogmeat if you find him. Dogmeat has been in previous games and if killed in battle he will be dead forever. This applies to any characters you meet in the game and this is my only problem. It’s nice to have things true to life but if I kill someone by accident that has a major role to play within the game to provide a quest later on if he is dead I can’t access that quest!

This game is huge, I have played over 60 hours and that’s not including the 3 downloadable content out. I won’t spoil any of the story but one more point I will cover is VATS. This stands for Vault Tec Assisted System and allows you at the touch of a button to choose a limb on any enemy you meet. You can choose the head, legs, arms, weapon or body. You can only use it a number of times but it will replenish slowly. Real-time combat is paused, and action is played out from varying camera angles in a computer graphics version of "bullet time," creating a combat system that the Bethesda developers have described as a hybrid between turn-based and real-time combat.There are also two factions you can work for at the end of the game. One being the Brotherhood who you will notice around during the game and will help you from time to time so long as you don’t shoot at them.

Like I said at the start this is my favourite games of 2008 and although not as good as Oblivion it’s not far off.

God of War: Chains of Olympus "Review"

Not played many PSP games for a while and one of my friends kept on telling me to get GOD so I picked it up. First impressions were that the graphics looked smooth and everything flowed pretty well with little slowdown. Sometime the frame rate will struggle to keep up but it’s rare and lasts less then a second.

The controls are easy to get on with, you have two attack buttons which can be used together to pull of combos, a block button and you can also dodge using the shoulder buttons and also your special attacks come from holding down L1 and using one of the four buttons on the front of the console.
The story and cut sense are very good slandered and entertaining throughout the game but the quick time events can be frustrating at times as they could be quite fast. The early stages when you have mini boss fights require you to finish off the bosses with quick time events but get it wrong and the boss regains half his health……………Half? It’s a bit much. The funny thing is that later in the game this no longer happens and any enemy you have to use quicktime events on still has it if you get it wrong.
As you power up the game gets easier and easier especially the end which is a little disappointing, also the length of the game is very short. I finished it in a day and a half and that’s only playing for a few hours.
Sometimes open chests and doors can be frustrating as you have to be standing in the correct place to get the option to open.
I feel that they have concentrated to much on quick time events rather then stick to epic boss battles and this is a shame as it gets a bit too much.
This is the only problem with the game, its fun to play, a great story and I suppose it would have a replay value. My recommendation would be to start on Hard if you plan to go through it once. You can pick it up for £10 so it’s more then worth it for this price.

Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy "Review"

The Bourne Conspiracy follows both the first film and the book, it adds in bits from the film and memories of past jobs being an assassin before Jason lost his memory. You start off on the game before where the film starts on the Wombosi case. There are 3 missions out of the 11 just on the Wombosi case and only 5 missions out of the film which are all short leaving the other 3 missions which are past hits.
The battle system is what the game is all about and the only place it fails badly! Although a great idea fights use only three buttons, He has both fast and heavy strikes attached to the X and Y buttons respectively. Tapping either button triggers a punch while holding a button down charges a fast or heavy kick and the A button is your defence. The fights look really good but the problem is the camera moves around a lot trying to give of a dramatic impression. While the camera moves around you sometimes go off-screen for a couple of seconds leaving you to guess what you are doing. By stringing combos together in one of eight combos, you can cause serious damage to an opponent. Each successful strike will boost Jason's adrenaline meter, and when one section of the meter is filled, he can perform a takedown which can take an enemy down with one touch of a button (B) or take more energy off a boss battle. You can increase the adrenaline bar up to three times to max and this can be used for three individual takedowns or if you have three enemies around you, you could take them all out if you get the quicktime events right.
Quicktime events occur throughout the game and sometimes can be very annoying, if you are in the middle of a fight and your enemy tries a take down on you a quicktime event will come up for you to counter the move but if you are to busy still fighting you could press the wrong button therefore getting hit.
Other problems with this game are the camera while moving can be annoying especially when you have a weapon drawn, also when you take cover behind something you can’t just run in and do it sometimes you have to run to where you want to go then stop and then cover by this time sometimes you are shot by then! Also while undercover you can sometimes get hit through a pillar or something and also sometimes you can shoot enemies through your cover which is impossible and just lazy programming.
Shooting is another thing that annoys me in this game, aiming is slow and crap! When you take cover and then come away to shoot the aiming does not auto focus and by the time you have moved your sight the enemy has moved. Also sometimes you take a headshot and they will die straight away and other times it takes a few hits.
The last problem I have is while running away from enemies like in the Embassy level (Demo Level) while running away from shooters and you get into a fight once you defeat that enemy the camera is not always left in the way you were running sometimes you have turned around then once you finish you start running into trouble instead of away. Also maps are not always clear and to go back to a point just raised when you enter a one on one battle and there are shooters you can not break away from the fight and therefore you still get shot at and lose live.
The storyline pretty much follows the first film with some old missions included, the graphics are good and the gameplay when working can be fun to play but there are just too many issues. I wanted to like this game but it’s just full of frustrating moments and it’s way to short.

Resident Evil 5 "Review"

Big Resi Fan although I get slated for never playing RE3. The 4th being my favourite followed by the Remake of 1 on the Gamecube then this one which is by far no bad thing as I consider RE2 to be after and I loved that game.

Sooo Resident Evil 5..first off I will mention that I never played this game solo, I understand it’s meant to be frustrating when your partner takes all your items you want and uses valuable herbs when you take a hit of damage! So I decided to play with a mate over xbox Live. Not only does co op work well but I feel it brings a little more fun into the game and also your partner might spot something you don’t!

The game is a lot shorter then RE4 and the co op brings a new angle to things. RE4 kind of stepped away from its survival horror and became more of an action game. I have to say I do miss the zombies from the first game, they brought a sense of fear and excitement and now its all unloading your guns, blowing shit up and quick time events…………………….Quick time events :( could be a good thing, I personally don’t favour them to much especially when in co op both of you have to get it right, and you have to be dead on!
RE5 has taken a lot of ideas from RE4 like some of the boss battles and a guy with a chainsaw who takes way to many hits to kill. Most of the boss battles are fairly easy with a couple of exceptions but even these once worked out could be simple alas making a play through game much shorter to what is already a short game.

Finding treasures seems pointless, all you do is sell them again the might as well just give you extra gold lying around! Ammo can be in short supply at times which is a good thing as it teaches you not to unload all your bullets onto oncoming enemies and maybe look around a bit for barrels or if all else fails just peg it!

The graphics are brilliant at times and even online there really is no slow down, Sheva isn’t really a welcome extra to the game although fun in co op, a survival horror is all about turning off all the lights cranking up the surround sound and most important, “going it alone” playing with a mate although really good fun takes what made the earlier games great. RE4 and RE5 now have become good action games.

The story is ok but not brilliant and sees the return of some characters from the first Resi game although Chris seems to have been hitting the gym everyday since the first game was released as his arms seem to be modelled on the incredible hulk! All he needs is to become green and rip his clothes a bit!
The fact you can not shoot and run at the same time brings some elements of fear but again this is taken away by the fact you have a partner covering your ass. The only time you truly feel vulnerable is if your partner runs of without you and you run into a spot of bother! Later in the game it will split you from your side kick but usually you can make it back to join them quickly or help them from a far!

You can use your found gold to upgrade weapons or buy new ones but you can not buy any ammo, this is an annoying thing but on the other hand a good thing as it teaches you to go looking for some and use some of the other weapons you would not normally. You can only hold 9 items on you at all times and this includes everything, your healing items, guns and ammo everything else goes into a item screen you can only take from when you start a new level or die!
You can pass items between you and your sidekick and if you come across an item you want you can drop an item but this will be gone forever!
I have yet to play Mercenaries and I will be going through this game again as Sheva who is played over the left shoulder.

Not a patch on RE4 but a great Action Co-Op game none the less
