Prince of Persia "Review"

Game: Prince of Persia
Published by: Ubisoft
Developed by: Ubisoft Montreal
Formats: PS3, X360, PC Format Played: X360

I have not played any of the previous Prince of Persia games but only decided to play this one because a friend of mind recommended it as a game I would like and you know what! He was right!

The game looks beautiful, everything is cell shaded and although troublesome darting through the levels quickly can be really good fun.

You start off by meeting Elika while looking for your Donkey, she will stick by you through the game as in there to aid you. If you fall off a ledge or an enemy is getting the better of you she will step in and save your ass.
Elika will also help you when taking long jumps and can be used in battle.
There are not many enemies around and most of the game is getting from one Fertile ground to another. There are 4 main bosses that you have to fight 5 times in different places.

You and Elika are trying to imprison Ahriman, who has been inexplicably set free by Elika’s father. You have to accompany Elika to a series of fertile grounds to their former glory. Once you have driven the boss away Elika is able to set free the land and then you are able to collect light seeds for Elika. There are 45 in each section and getting a certain amount lets Elika gain a new power by using a new plate which there is four in total.
There is not much story but you can have short conversations with Elika which are entertaining.
You can not die on this game but if you want to get the achievements it would be wise to be kind to her. The fighting is easy and mostly sidestepping blocking and you then get a choice of a button to press.
The game has a fantastic ending which sets up the next game.

Little Big Planet "Review"

Game: Little Big Planet
Published by: Sony Computer Entertainment
Developed by: Media Molecule
Formats: PS3 Format Played: PS3

I have wanted to do this review for a while as I played the Beta and had this game on day of release but I would have felt the review half hearted if I didn’t make some comments about the level design so here at last is my review of Little Big Planet.

At last something unique to gaming. A game with cute sackboys and a decent level design that you can post on the PS network for others to enjoy and keep this going as long as people keep making levels for it.

Rumour has it that there will be a MGS level download coming out for this game and that would truly be amazing!

There really isn’t much to explain when telling you about this game; you start of as a naked sackboy with the voice of the legendary Stephen Fry giving you instructions on how to move your sackboy.

You start off exploring the gardens, each level is like something out of honey I shrunk the kids, you look small compared to the background and most of the things are made out of metal, cardboards and wood! You also get swings made out of sponge and at this point I would like you say that you can hold onto anything made of sponge whether it be a swing or the ground!

The game looks fantastic although basic at the same time but also refreshing and new! Every level you can play on your own or on the PSN with up to 3 other players. Some sections require you to have more then one person to get extra items.

If I would have to sum this game up in three words it would be “Cute, Stunning, Puzzler” although all the puzzles really don’t require much thought you really are just playing this whole game with a smile on your face.

Your sackboy can be changed to your liking, as you flow through the game you will acquire items and material and clothes to change your sackboy to make your own. However you can also use costumes and buy some on the PSN. Mine is currently Ryu from Streetfighter (pictured)
As well as items for your sackboy you can also pickup items to build which I will return to and stickers. Stickers can be used anywhere and you can place them on new level designs or in any level you are playing on and even over a sackboy!

Some stickers are needed to gain extra items! Again it’s not hard to figure which ones and where they are needed.

The story is short but enjoyable but what really propels this game is the online mode, playing other levels that your everyday gamer has created in his or her home is where it’s out. There are a load of rubbish around but 1/4 are really enjoyable to play and some are brilliant which makes you think must have taken them ages to make.

The designers really have come up trumps with this idea, create a short game but allow others to great vast levels for you to make this game a seller. MM I salute you!
Online is fun but I have had lots of slowdown and lag in most online games I have played with more then 2 people in a level and this is a big shame.

Level design, this is where it’s at. You collect bits and bobs as you go along and again Stephen Fry will talk you through all the training you need to start making your own levels and it is a lot to digest but do not let that stop you! As you continue to build your first level you will find it’s actually very easy to make a standard half decent level! Mine is halfway through and is getting longer then I wanted my first one to be but I have moving objects, enemies, swings, bombs, switches you name it and it’s fun fun fun to do as well. Takes me back to my childhood playing with Lego!

This game really is one of its kind and I would advise anyone with a PS3 to purchase this game.

Remember, Cute, Stunning Puzzler!

10/10

This is just a short extra to let you know how good the Metal Gear Solid extra is. It costs just £5 for the costumes and £5 for the levels. You get a paint gun which you use to fight against the robots and camera’s.

It is short and will take you about 20 minutes to do but really enjoyable extra.

Dead Space “Review”

Game: Dead Space
Published by: Electronic Arts
Developed by: EA Redwood Shores
Formats: Xbox360, PC, PS3 Format Played: Xbox 360

In deep space Isaac Clarke and 4 others answer a distress call from the USG Ishimura. They believe that there is a mechanical failure but after minutes of the game two of the crew are killed off by what looks like aliens and your shuttle explodes!
The game opens with you Isaac viewing a video sent to him from his ex-girlfriend Nicole Brennan who is currently aboard the ship Ishimura.
The aliens that attack are called Necromorphs, these creatures reproduce by reanimating a human host dead or alive and violently mutating and assimilating them to become one of their own.
After two of the crew get killed you are left with two other members Kendra Daniels and Zach Hammond who will keep in contact with you throughout the game.
The game itself can be compared to Resident Evil 4, it has that same style of over the shoulder 3rd person view and the game play itself is very similar. The game works very well, I had no bugs throughout the game and everything did what I asked it to unlike some list of games I could run off for you.
The first thing I will let you know about this game is it is played in the dark and half the time the lights will go off and you will be locked in a room with the Necromorphs or even better sometimes they will just come out of no where from anywhere!
This game is best played in the dark and has some of the best surround sound of any game I have ever played. My advice to anyone is to get a decent set of headphones and play in the dark. You get voices in you ear all the time and Necromorphs running around the vents and walls around you.
This game is brilliant at keeping you on the edge of your seat sometimes making a noise behind you that is nothing or cuts in music that sounds like something is coming then it doesn’t then eases you into a mindset that you are ok then sends out enemies.
Some crawl towards you and others will run full pelt at you. Some enemies will burst open and send other enemies your way especially these annoying little ones that jump on you and start eating away at you.
I will be man enough to admit I jumped quite a few times when playing this game and not just at enemies jumping out at me but sometimes when all my concentration is looking around in the dark for enemies and then someone contacts you which makes such a loud noise lol
Like I said this game does a great job at keeping you in suspense and it’s the best thing about this game. The story is weak and very broken up, you don’t see your characters face and there is no real back-story about your ex who you are searching for.
Your health meter is on your back and also you’re Stasis can be used in the game to slow down enemies and objects temporarily, and a kinesis module allows Isaac to pick up and throw items.
An in game store lets you buy new weapons, health and upgrade your suits with credits you will find dotted around. You will also find ammo, credits and items which opens up new suits and weapons at the store.
There are also nodes dotted around the game which will let you purchase upgrades to your suit and weapons at benches dotted around the game. Upgrades include air, HP, ammo capacity, damages etc etc.
Zero gravity and decompressed environments also appear in Dead Space, and Isaac can navigate through them using his pressurized suit and magnetic boots. Some levels even lead out onto the surface of the ship's hull. Floating debris presents a hazard, however, and Isaac can lose his footing and simply float off into space.
Isaac's suit also has a limited amount of air while in airless environments, which can cause him to suffocate, forcing you to move faster when in these situations. Once in these area’s you can use air tubes to replenish air or sometimes there are O2 bottles on the wall. Keeping with the suspense of this game when your air gets low Isaac’s breathing will increase and as there is no music playing this can be quite eerie.
Towards the end of the game you get used to things jumping out at you and once you have built up your weapons you lose that sense of suspense and end up kicking and melee any enemy that crosses your path but the game itself always stay’s fresh and interesting and adds a new and annoying enemy to keep you occupied.
One of the best survival horror games I have played in a long time.

Final Fantasy VII "Review"

Game: Final Fantasy VII
Published by: Square
Developed by: Square
Formats: PS1, PC Format Played: PS1

This is an extra review as its Christmas of one of my all time favourite games.
Never have I been as involved in a game as this one. My first real RPG I ever played back in 1997. I bought it because I watched the demo trailer from the bonus disk on The Official Playstation Magazine and they scored it 10/10. I think I paid £45 for it in comet at the time. When I got home and popped in the disk for my first play through my first reaction was "What is this crap" but two days later I was hooked.
Fantastic story line and the only game that made me get so attached to the characters and remains the only computer game to make me upset.

There were some fantastic breakthrough games in the 90’s including Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider, Mario 64 and of course Final Fantasy VII. These games set the benchmark for games that you would find in stores today. Playing your first 3D game was a massive deal whereas most games today do not bring anything new with a few exceptions like the Wii console and Mirrors Edge!
When Mario 64 and Tomb Raider were released these were a couple of the first 3D games, Metal Gear Solid was the first 3D game of its kind where you have to be stealthy and hide from enemies and brought some great idea’s to gaming like having to use the back of the game case to find a number, using the 2nd control port to beat a boss and reading your memory card to tell you what you have played.
Final Fantasy was not the first of its kind in the sense of an RPG but the way it was delivered. It was the first huge RPG to hit the UK and people will remember it as their first proper RPG.

You start off in control of the main character Cloud Strife but you are given a choice as with most of the others you meet to change his/her name. I suggest you don’t but that’s just me.
Cloud was from a group called Solider which is Shinra’s elite fighting group. Now however he is working as a mercenary for a small terrorist group called Avalanche who wants to stop Shinra using the life force of the planet by blowing up their macro reactors. It’s not long before Cloud meets up with the second Character Barret Wallace and once the first mission is completed you also meet a childhood friend Tifa Lockheart.
It’s not long before you are back out on your second mission taking Barret and Tifa along with you but this mission fails and an explosion sees Cloud falling and landing in a flower garden of a church in the slums where he meets the forth character Aerith Gainsborough.
You learn that Aerith is the last remaining Ancients and is being hunted by a group of suits called the Turks who do all Shinra’s dirty work.
As the story goes on you meet up with the rest of the group and after Aeith has been captured by the Turks and Shinra drop one of the plates in Midgar to try and crush the hideout of the Avalanche group killing thousands the team head direct into the Shinra building. The President of Shinra believes that Aerith can lead him into the promise land a mythical land of fertility, where he expects to find makro.
After freeing Red XIII the fifth member of the group they escape only to find the president has been killed by Septhiroth a man who was supposed to be dead. The party also learns that during Sephiroth's attack on Shinra, the headless body of a creature named "Jenova" disappeared from the building's research facility. While the president's son, Rufus Shinra, assumes control of the company, AVALANCHE pursues Sephiroth across the planet, fearing his intentions for the Promised Land may be more destructive than Shinra's.
The group leaves Midgar and Cloud tells the story of how he and Sephiroth worked together and then goes on to explain how Sephiroth went mad finding out he was made and his mother was JENOVA an ancient that fell to the planet. Sephiroth burned down Clouds hometown and was believed to have been killed.
During the groups chase of Sephiroth you meet up with an optional character Yuffie Kisaragi a young materia theif and ninja, Caith Sith who you later find out is a robot controlled by one of the Turks. Vincent Valentine another optional character who was a former member of the Turks who was killed and brought back as an immortal and later in the game Cid Highwind, a pilot.

You later learn that Sephiroths plan is to significantly damage the planet so it would heal itself and he would be at the source of where the lifestream would gather. Sephiroth calls forth meteor to injure the planet and would then merge with all of the planet's energy, allowing him to be reborn as a god and rule over the planet.

Cloud faces Sephiroth but then loses control of himself and turns puppet to Sephiroth giving him the magic he needs to bring forth Meteor.
Cloud becomes suspicious of his memories and insists he is not a real human, but instead a specimen created from Jenova's genetic material by Professor Hojo a scientist for Shinra.

Jenova was an interstellar creature who crash landed on the planet roughly 2,000 years prior to the game's events. Jenova had intended to infect all living organisms on the planet with a virus inducing insanity and monstrous transformations among its victims were most of the Cetra. Attempting to defend itself, the planet created giant monsters called "WEAPONs". The majority of humans fled rather than fight Jenova; however, a small group of Cetra survivors managed to defeat and confine Jenova. Eventually, the remains of Jenova were unearthed by Professor Gast, a researcher for the Shinra Company. Mistaking the creature for a Cetra, Gast was given authorization to conduct an experiment to artificially produce a Cetra by combining cells from Jenova with the fetus of an unborn child. Sephiroth learned that he was the product of this experiment while on a Shinra mission in Cloud and Tifa's hometown, Nibelheim. He concluded that he was a Cetra who had been produced solely from Jenova's genetic material. He burned down Nibelheim, intending to kill all descendants of those he believed had abandoned his ancestors in the defense of the planet.

Sephiroth appears and kills Aerith then after laying her body to rest; the party resolves to defeat Sephiroth. They travel to the place where the last Meteor fell but again Cloud loses control, sephoroth calls Meteor and the WEAPONs are released. The group escape and Cloud falls into the lifesteam so you continue to play as Tifa.

The remaining members of AVALANCHE obtain Cid’s ship and begin their search for cloud. They find him in a tropical island where he was washed up but he appears to have lost his thought and mind. When one of the WEAPON’s attacks Cloud and Tifa are thrown into the lifestream and Tifa helps Cloud by finding his true self. Tifa helps reconstruct Cloud's memories and learns the truth about his past. It is revealed that Cloud never succeeded in joining SOLDIER, and that the dark-haired SOLDIER from his memories was actually Aeris's first boyfriend, Zack Fair. Zack, Tifa, and Cloud had fought Sepiroth during the latter's attack on Nibelheim. Although Tifa and Zack were defeated, Cloud and Sephiroth severely wounded one another. After decapitating Jenova, Sephiroth is thrown into the Lifestream by Cloud, taking the creature's head with him. Rather than dying, his body and consciousness were crystallized in Mako inside Jenova's crater.

With Cloud back in charge they discover that just before Aerith was killed she casted Holy with white materia the only means of opposing meteor. Although she managed it before she died Sephiroth has prevented it from working so the group head off for the final showdown against him. They defeat him at the Northern Crater and Holy comes to the rescue but it isn’t strong enough so the Planet helps by using its lifestream.
The game is huge and takes from 40 hours to 90 if you want to defeat the two extra weapons and level up.
The battle system is turn based using magic’s from fire to Holy. With most RPG’s you get potions and other items to help you along the way. You can also by power up’s new weapons and amour.

If I was to talk about the whole game I could go on for hours but I will add that the soundtrack for its time was outstanding. Nobouo Uematsu composed the soundtrack and would later go on to do some of the others bringing some of the best music to the Final Fantasy world.

Shaun White Snowboarding "Review"

Game: Shaun White Snowboarding
Published by: Ubisoft
Developed by: Ubisoft Montreal
Formats: X360, PS3, Wii Format Played: X360

Ubisoft making a snowboarding game? Well they have and this one is based on Shaun White who if you didn’t know is a professional snowboarder.
When I started the game I didn’t get on with it, it seemed unresponsive, I kept getting caught on snow, and my character seemed to do things I didn’t want him to.
After about 4 hours of playing I must now say I love this game and more then Amped3 which is saying something. It might not be as good as SSX but its different and more real to life which is what I was looking for in a snowboarding game.
To top it off and what separates this game is it’s on Xbox Live. You can have up to 16 people per mountain from all over the world. There are bad points with this if you are stuck with 13 year old American’s who just swear constantly and hate losing! Or when they win they go over the top with their celebrations telling you that you got owned and they slept with your mom. Quite annoying yes?
On the other hand I have played with a host of Americans and most of them have been great to have a game with and some have even helped me out finding the best locations and some secret areas!
Live is what makes this game, I no longer stay on the single player not that its bad or anything but you can do all the same things on the multiplayer but with the sound of people chatting and seeing others snowboarding down the mountains with you.
The bad points on live is that if anyone hosting a mountain leaves they you get kicked back to the single player mode which is annoying if you are in the middle of a joint race or competition. Also sometimes you get a lot of lag making others seem like they are floating in the air or stuttering forwards.
The storyline of this game is very poor so far and just collecting coins for Shaun seems to be it! Also every mountain is open from the moment you load up the game and so is 90% of the competitions on each mountain. The only thing that you seem to play for is money to buy new boards and clothes.
This isn’t such a bad thing as when you join a live game it’s nice to have everything unlocked so you can play any game with others.

The mountains look great and once you have a better board it’s a lot of fun snowboarding down the mountains I just wish there were more then 4 of them.
All in all an average snowboarding game which is made better with Live. And you can chuck snowballs at people :)

Tomb Raider Underworld 'Review'

Game: Tomb Raider Underworld
Published by: Eidos Interactive
Developed by: Crystal Dynamics
Formats: X360, PS3, PC, Wii Format Played: X360

Picking up from Legend this continues after. I feel like this game and Legend have now become Tomb Raider 2 and 3 because from Anniversary (TR1) Underworld continues the story from Legend but all the other TR games each have separate storylines.
First off the graphics are stunning and Lara’s looks and moves are impressive to say the least. You will see Lara look where she is placing her hands when she is climbing and when she is running down stairs she will do it properly to balance herself but occasionally she will also lose her balance and stumble forward which she will also sometimes do when she doesn’t quite make a jump and only manages to grab hold with one hand.
As with previous TR games the glitches are back but it’s not all through the game and only pops up here and there. Some of these glitches have been I managed to fall through a part of the land and sometimes a jump you know you can make she sometimes will not reach out to grab it and you end up falling to your death. These are only little things and they didn’t really distract me from playing through the game. I did have one major glitch in a room with blades and spikes and they froze but when I died they were still frozen so I could not move forward! Luckily the game auto saves so I had to go back and start that part of the level again.
The above and the fact the game is quite short are my only downfalls I am a huge Tomb Raider fan so it’s hard to me to criticize bits which have been in every TR game so far but in the end I think the fans have come to accept this as part of the game. Some reviews of this game have been average as they have said there is nothing ground breaking with this game………………………..so what? Look what they did to TR2 by taking it away from tombs! I would rather they stay true to the first tomb raider and have Lara searching through tombs and finding secrets! Also puzzles, we like puzzles and even though there are some in Underworld they are no trouble whatsoever and you will not spend too long before you move on.
Secrets are now in Pots which are dotted around everywhere and quite easy to see but there are so many of them that finding all nearly 200 in the game could be tricky! There is also a Relic in most of the levels and these are a little more difficult to find but I wish there were more then just 6 as I found 4 in my first play through.
I have to say that I was a little upset when I finished the game, the story got better towards the end and I knew it was coming but there was one thing I hoped to expect but it never came but the ending was left open for another game which is great news.
Lara has some new moves as well as some old ones returning. You can still swan dive, the grabble is back although you can now use the grapple to abseil down high cliffs and area’s, also her pointless flips are back but slightly changed and although pointless they look so good! The way she flips up when climbing rocks now comes randomly and quicker. Lara’s headshots can now only be pulled off when your adrenaline is full which will fill up by shooting enemies and once full you can now click action when the enemy is attacking, this will slow down the screen for a short period of time and once this happens you have to move the curser to the head of your enemy before the time runs out, this will kill them with one single shot. Lara also has sticky bombs which can be used to take out a load of enemies at a time and also great fun!
Every so often the screen will fill with small spiders and Bats which can be annoying, they only take 1 shot to kill but so many come out at time your auto focus goes mental! But if you don’t want to shoot them just kick them out the way!
The levels are open plan and you can pretty much go everywhere which sometimes makes you lose your way slightly but that’s the fun with Tomb Raider games, its trial and error!
Like I said the story is good, the game play is fantastic (apart from a few glitches), the fighting is fun but the puzzles are easy and the game is shorter then I would have liked but what the hell you can always play it again on Hard!
On first play through I have managed to get all but 4 achievements and they have go rid of the time trials……………..why would they do such a thing?

Banjo-Kazooie "Review"

Game: Banjo-Kazooie
Published by: Nintendo & Microsoft
Developed by: Rare
Formats: X360/N64 Format Played: X360 Live

I have been waiting for ages to play this game again since playing the N64 version (Released in 1998) and always wanted Nintendo to bring it out on the Wii but as Rare was bought by Microsoft I thought it would never get a release. Something crazy happened around June of this year which was not only were they releasing it in lovely High Def but it was free…..yes FREE when you ordered a copy of their new game Nuts N Bolts.
Now I never finished the original so having the download gave me inspiration to finish this one plus the fact that the Xbox controller is a hell of a lot better then the N64 one was and you can now rotate the camera using the right thumb stick.

Banjo-Kazooie adopted many of its central game play mechanics from Nintendo's groundbreaking title Super Mario 64. For instance, the player must similarly explore non-linear 3D worlds and gather tokens.
The game opens on Spiral Mountain, home of Banjo and Kazooie, as well as the vile witch Gruntilda. One day while reminiscing her own "beauty" despite being an ugly old hag, Gruntilda learns that the most beautiful girl of all is actually Tooty, Banjo's sister. Banjo and Kazooie then decide to go save her with the help of Bottles the Mole who teaches the team all they need to know.
The game looks so much better then it did on the N64, everything looks so nicely touched up and the controls work very well.
Every world has 5 Jinjos hiding around, 100 Notes, 10 Jiggy Pieces to be earned and Mumbo Tokens which can be used it Mumbo’s hut to transform you into animals to help you get some of the Jiggy’s in each world.
Unlike Mario 64 once you find a Jiggy the game does not eject you out of the world and you can continue in the world to find everything.
As well as the collectables you can also find Bottles the Mole who will teach you new moves in most worlds. You have to find a certain number of Jiggy’s to open the new worlds and a certain amount of notes to open doors to progress.
This is a game for people who like to find things because on top of that there is also Hollow Honeycombes to find and six will earn you extra health and if you think that was enough to collect you can also find items called Stop N Swop

Stop N Swop
Stop 'N' Swop is an incomplete feature in Banjo-Kazooie. Six colored eggs and a key made of ice were discovered in the game that would be viewable in a menu titled "Stop 'N' Swop". In an ending sequence of Banjo-Kazooie, Mumbo Jumbo would tell the players that secret areas would be accessible via a link with the sequel, Banjo-Tooie. Stop 'N' Swop was never fully realized in Banjo-Tooie.
The Xbox Live Arcade version of Banjo-Kazooie will feature Stop 'N' Swop connectivity with Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts to unlock new features
I managed to find all 900 song notes, all 100 Jiggys, all Hollow Honeycombs, all Stop N Swop and all the Jinjo’s!

The end of the game is different from any other game I have played as you play a board game which you have to make your way to the end answering questions about the game as you progress. It is a nice touch but some of the questions can be hard and if you land on a Death square if you don’t answer the question correctly you have to start again.

If you have managed to find all the Jiggy’s, Jinjo’s and Notes you get to fight the evil witch Gruntilda who has 4 different phases and proves to be a challenge. Only beating her would give you the true ending!

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts Review coming soon!

Gears of War 2 "Review"

Game: Gears of War 2
Published by: Microsoft
Developed by: Epic Games
Formats: X360 Format Played: X360

It’s the big one so I better do it justice. I was going to put this game back as I have so many as it is but when I heard the rumour that it was only being sold for £29 in Sainsbury’s out came the credit card! And I am so glad I did buy it.
The game picks up from the last one and it’s not so much of the story that interested me with this game it’s just the mindless fighting and the fact you can kill people with a chainsaw on the end of your gun!
First impressions and I think a lot of people thought the same is that it looked and felt like the last one. A few new things of interest is that you can down and enemy and then once you see them crawling for their life you have a choice of executions you can finish him off with which leaves you feeling satisfied!
There are a few new weapons but it’s the old ones that most people tend to stick to!
The game is relatively easy, I still have to play through on insane mode but everything I have come across in Hardcore has been pretty easy going.
I have two games on the go, the solo campaign which I am playing on Hardcore and also a CO-OP mode which I am also playing on hardcore. Co-Op is really fun but it it’s just as hard as the single player because in the solo campaign your team mates AI is brilliant and they hardly let you down whereas the Co-Op mode I found my partner kept running into gunfire because that’s what he likes to do and then I had to run after him and save his ass. Works both ways mind as I also get downed and need assistance.
Online is fun but feels like any other FPS multiplayer but with chainsaws! The maps are well laid out and easy to work around but the best extra of them all is a multiplayer mode called Horde. In horde you have 5 of you in one map then they release wave after wave of enemies at you each wave getting stronger. I played 3 times and its not much fun when no one speaks to you but one of the games I played with all American’s was so much fun and they really got into it.
I love Co-Op games something that could have been so much better in Fable but unfortunately wasn’t to be. In Horde though as long as you have a good team you really feel part of something especially when a team mate saves your ass!
Back to the Solo mode and it’s just as good looking as the original. Instead of gears to find there are collectables, 41 to be exact and they all tell a story as well as gain you achievements. The boss fights so far have been fairly easy but Gears of War 2 is just a fun mindless game to play whether it be on your own or with a friend. Hail to chainsaws!

Top Spin 3 "Review"

Game: Top Spin 3
Published by: 2K Sports
Developed by: PAM Development
Formats: X360, PS3, Wii. Format Played: X360

After football I would say F1 and Tennis (Wimbledon only really) are the two sports I would watch. When Top Spin came out on the Xbox I bought it on release and I am not sure what made me do it but I really enjoyed it. I loved the fact you could choose to be nice or mad or rub the others face in it after any shot which seems to have been lost come the second one. But the main thing with the second is that it was just as fun as the first. It was easy to pick up and once you levelled up games became easier. You had a world map which means you could choose what tournaments to enter but this again has been wiped from 3.
Everything I liked from 1 & 2 has been lost with 3 unfortunately, you have no sponsor anymore which means you can wear whatever you like but have to purchase it with point yet in the later levels you still earn cash but I am yet to find out why and what you can buy with it if anything.
The achievements are mostly for online gameplay which I hate for the one main reason, if you pick up the game a few months after release there are not that many people playing which makes it harder to gain achievements.
As the sponsor goes so does the world map meaning you have to play the tournaments as they are given to you and as you progress through the game you have to play one each month and each tournament has 5 stages meaning they could last up to an hour to two hours depending on how well you do.
Also you lost your trainer which I used to find was a nice touch and what they have replaced all this with is to make the game more real! Why? It was fun as it was now you want to make it more lifelike? I don’t like lifelike if I did I would buy a racket and go play for real! What I want is fun and they are zapping everything I liked.
The game in my opinion has become a lot more harder, so much so that this is the first time I have had to move a game down to easy and sometimes I want to move to very easy but I can’t bring myself to do it.
You have to be in the correct position to hit the ball back correctly and if you are not you will either miss it or hit it out of the courts area.
Another annoying thing I found is that as I progressed through the game I become a lot better and it seems the computer realises this. I picked up on certain characters and their weak point and used it against them. There is nothing wrong with the computer realising this or changing its tactics within the game but what happened next was ridiculous. As the opposition could not beat me on court the game decided to change tactics and Ace me every time it was their serve. This has really annoyed me because the ball either goes so far to the right I cant make it or when the ball comes towards me and I press A my character wont swing and just stands there or head the ball with his head. This has really annoyed me no end so much that when I finish the game I will be selling it.
It started when I was 0-40 up against one player and at this stage you would be rubbing your hands together and thinking you got break but nooooo, first Ace, ok so they happen from time to time 15-40, 2nd serve Ace 30-40 ooooook, 3rd Deuce FFS then Ace Advantage, Ace Game!
That’s not tennis that’s just stupid! And when it’s my serve I beat him 40-0 but all my points are done after a rally which I worked for. I have only gotten 1 ace in the whole game so I have lost hope of getting the achievement for 100! The other 2 games I mastered but this game is ridicules.
Looks like Top Spin2 but clearly missing all the good bits.
The only good thing is the graphics are very nice.
P.S. Where has Wimbledon gone?

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed "Review"

Game: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Published by: LucasArts
Developed by: LucasArts
Formats: X360, PS3, Wii and PC. Format Played: X360

It’s been a while since there has been a great Star Wars game, the last one being the first Knights of the Old republic so when I heard that there was another Star Wars game coming out I jumped for joy…..ok well maybe just a little woop!

I watched loads and loads of clips of the game before I bought it and after a while I had second thoughts about it because it seemed like way too many over the top force powers………well what can I say. Who cares it’s fun fun fun!

The game is set between Episodes 3 and 4 and tales of a Young boy Vader trains in secret of the emperor. The story itself is good and fits everything in without ruining it.
The battle system is easy to pick up and use but wait! Yes I am going into negative comments this early on in the review! The problem with everything is bugs and glitches, they are everywhere and they can be annoying. I was in the middle of a boss fight one time when I suddenly found myself under the ground with my lightsaber poking out the top, annoying? Well not that example because I took the boss out from underneath :D but the lock on is absolute crap and this causes you to miss people you are targeting. Also sometimes the objectives disappear and if it does you can not get the achievement for doing all objectives.

However! Don’t let this put you off the game, if you can ignore all those bugs the game is fun and there is nothing more fun then clearing a room of stormtroopers with one big blast! Peter Petrelli eat your heart out!
I did enjoy every level and apart from the glitches the only annoying part of the game I found was the Star Destroyer! It’s not so much that it’s hard but stupid and annoying. Without giving too much away I’ll just say the controls are shit!

There are two endings, but you wont get to choose them until right at the very end and as I wanted to see them I went through the game twice and just about to do a quick spin through again as you keep all your force powers and items gained from the first play but if you want the Harder achievements you will need to restart a new game.
The first level see’s you playing as Vader who is powerful but annoyingly slow, but who cares as you are clearing wookies out left right and centre!

Things I found most fun in this game is blowing enemies around me out the way, force lighting and picking objects up and chucking them at people or picking people up and chucking them at people or just out of the way or off a ledge.
I would have liked to give this game an 8 but due to the glitches I am forced to lower it one.
